Meet John
John Savrnoch is the Assistant District Attorney for Santa Barbara County, where he currently oversees all attorneys and cases in the DA’s office works closely with the District Attorney in designing and implementing community programs and office policies. During the course of his 30-year career, Savrnoch has overseen the prosecution of serious and violent crimes, financial crimes, civil and environmental protection cases.
Savrnoch participates in multiple county-wide collaborative justice projects and initiatives such as “Stepping Up”, designed to keep people suffering from serious mental health issues out of jail. He is currently supervising the implementation of the Goleta Restorative Justice Program and the development of a new county felony diversion program.
Savrnoch is working with CADA, the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, to expand North County treatment for youth through adults, suffering from drug abuse and mental health issues.
Prior to joining our county’s District Attorney’s office, Savrnoch was with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office for almost 23 years, where he represented abused children, prosecuting insurance fraud, and serious financial crimes. He held the office of Chief Assistant DA, overseeing the financial crimes and consumer protection unit and the misdemeanor prosecution unit.
Savrnoch received both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended law school at the University of Wisconsin where he received his Juris Doctor in 1990. He currently lives in the Santa Ynez Valley and has two children.
